For most people, finding productive and decent work is a coming-of-age symbol that marks the transition from childhood to adulthood. In finding employment, young people should gain independence and a freedom of choice about their lives. Unfortunately the employment opportunities available to millions of young people are limited, making it inevitably that the young remain dependent on their families for a longer period of time.
IUSY APC believes that providing decent work for young women and men is at the heart of its fight for democracy in the region. lifting young people out of poverty, social exclusion and uncertain futures is a vital fight in our struggle for social justice.

In fighting for decent work for young people, the IUSY APC calls upon governments in the Asia-Pacific Region to ensure full compliance and implementation at the local and national level of the core labor standard set out by the International Labor Organization. (ILO). In particular it calls upon governments to ensure the freedom of association for all workers. The IUSY APC fully believes that workers in all spheres of the world of work whether it is the formal or informal economy have the full right to freely associate themselves and organize trade unions to fight for their rights.
Gender inequality exists in all parts of the world including this region. IUSY APC believes that all actors in the worlds of work must battle against discriminatory policies and practices. Women must be afforded equal access to education from early childhood and throughout their lives. Equal pay and maternity protection are crucial in ensuring decent work for women. Globally women are holding a greater share of the economic power but are absent from the decision-making levels and management in the workplace. IUSY APC calls upon all young people in the region to strive towards creating decent work based on gender equality to build a basis for women to have equal status into the decision making powers of the world of work.
Much of the debate on work in a globalised world has focused on the economic rather that the social dimensions; many young people face precarious working conditions and threats to their lives due to hazardous workplaces and lack of health and safety measure. IUSY APC calls on governments and employers to ensure that economical development strives to provide all workers in particular young women and men more and better social protection.
We will fight for decent work for all young people that will allows them to enjoy life at work and a decent life outside of the workplace. It is in the interest of all parts of our society to ensure that young people in the Asia Pacific Region have a future and we will continue to fight for a society which will provide the economic, social and cultural rights. Governments in the region must advocate for good governance, which will reinforce social progress and better stands of life in large freedom and promote the economic and social advancement of all people.
